                                 Moccasins

Every stitch in a moccasin is a step in your life.  The string is made out of tendons from an animal.  It is near the ankle.  In winter they layer their shoes.  First they put on animal skins.  Then the Abenaki put on boots and put moccasins over their boots.  Abenaki used animal skins.  The bottom of the moccasin is made out of moose hide.  There are a lot of stitches in a moccasin.  Most Abenakis do not wear them today. But some people do wear them. Moms made all of the moccasins.
